Musings 17/5/08 (GMAT, World in Conflict)

Have not been blogging for some time now. Was determined to write something today, as determined as you can be about blogging; so here I am.

As of recent news, add GMAT to one of my hobbies. I started browsing GMAT to check up on it, but found great fun reading through McGraw Hill's books (no worries, I am nowhere close to finished, just the first 40-odd pages). Thoroughly liked the chapter on Business Schools. Just browsed the Princeton Review book, seems great fun. Also got Kaplan, the Official Guide, Barrons and Arco to go through. I hope this will be a fun journey that will enrich myself and in the process will allow some aspiration fulfilment.

If 'aspiration fulfilment' seems vague, well it is meant to be. I expect multiple benefits from GMAT. Strategizing, learning, new direction, competition, fun, parent-pleaser... what not. But of course, as I told my mother, it will need to continue to be fun for me to see it to the end. And of course I'd be very happy to get a strong score and get a good scholarship at a good business school in the United States.

That said, choosing a business school has been a tough call so far. I am, of course, yet to devote significant time to it. My first browse, at my cousin Saki's suggestion was Mays School of Business of the Texas A&M University. He also suggested Arlington, Austin and Lamar. I found Virginia's Durden to be interesting (credit: McGraw-Hill :)). More time needs to be devoted before I can decide the four schools to which I will send my scores.

As the tone will suggest, I am excited by GMAT and the prospect of getting into a good American business school. My limited reading suggests them to be exciting places, and I won't need to worry much about a career if I do apply myself. I also had this false idea about scholarship not being available for MBA programs. Some GMAT reading and the Mays website clearly dispelled this idea. I was also fascinated by several detailed forum posts written by people who did well on the GMAT (720 and 740, respectively). Thanks guys (one of them is Eric, another probably is Siddarth), you inspired me.

In other news, World in Conflict has captivated me. WHAT A GAME! The cutscenes sure are a great incentive to continue the single player campaign, and the gameplay totally adds to it. I love those beautiful French towns... and specially when my artillery is shelling them (MRLs, more like). Of a mind to play my RPGs (role playing game) and [TB(turn based)/RT(real time)]S(strategy)s as well, but little time.

Anyway, great fun after blogging after such a while. Hope to continue and regularize. :)
