Started Morrowind - 5 Years After I Bought It

(From Bethesda’s Forums.)

I bought Morrowind when it came out, sometimes around 2003. Never really played it much. I did load it up and created a character, but at that point my PC was not really up to the task and the introductory gameplay kind of put me off. Didn't know much about Tamriel, and was more into Bioware type RPGs.

5 years later, I got hold of a shiny, new laptop and wanted to install some older games on it just for fun's sake. The list included Civ4, Sims2, Freedom Force, Warcraft3 and of course, Morrowind. To put it in a nutshell, I installed, booted up and got thoroughly hooked.

Of course, there is more to the story than that. I must credit Oblivion for this rejuvenation of Morrowind. I have so far gone through ~120 hours of Oblivion (no where close to finishing yet, FYI) and the game has immersed me on the wonderful world that is Tamriel. This knowledge and background has made Morrowind much richer an experience.

The graphics is indeed dated compared to Oblivion, but all these of course depend on one's assumptions, and as I was playing on a laptop, I did not ask for much. Still, it has exceeded all my expectations, and is pretty damn good, especially with the laptop's native 1280*800 resolution.

I had a recent gap in playing Bethesda RPGs, so as I get immersed into Morrowind, I start appreciating again how deep Bethesda makes their games. I mean, I am 18 odd hours into the game and I am only getting started. All I have killed so far were a few cave rats. Besides that, I have learned a wealth of information on the world and have gotten into half a dozen guilds and have got 24 pages of journal entries O-O. 18 hours into a game and you have not yet gotten started? Yeah, that kind of thing only happens with Bethesda RPGs.

I am playing with an Imperial Knight (chose Ultima style Q&A character class detection) named Rex Litharius. Wearing a patchwork of iron, steel and imperial legion armor. Really need some money, have only 26 GPs. So many skills to improve. I can already see myself replaying this game. There, a 1000 hours gone from my life! Well spent, though. smile.gifA bit too light on action at this point; so many options, so many NPCs!

I am curious as to how long it took fellow forumers here to 'complete' Morrowind in their first run. Also, I am debating with myself whether I should install mods as this is my FIRST Morrowind game. Nothing like a grand ol' RPG to make you feel rich and content. smile.gif

Any comments and experience sharing very welcome. Do not spoil me though, please. Looking forward to having some good time with the community as well.
